Yep -- dirty little secret revealed!

After Bacon's Rebellion (when white indentured servants and enslaved Black folks joined forces against their wealthy exploiters), Church and State got busy making sure it wouldn't happen again. Virginia passed some of the earliest apartheid laws. Preachers told Black folks to accept their lot as God's will. Meanwhile, they told poor white folks that slavery and apartheid were part of God's Order, and opposing these meant opposing God. And so it's been ever since.

Like the old song says -- you have to be carefully taught.
