Wow! That's just ... bizarre!

I've heard of small privately run "reparations funds" that are available to Black people only, and I can see the point of these. But this paper bag test, when applied to an actual woman who needs actual help right now, is just wrong. Makes me wonder if they're more interested in window dressing than in actual getting stuff done, especially in re her rude response to you asking about their name.

So is the woman in need just another Rachel Dolezol, trying to get stuff that's not hers? RD was exposed because her people of origin were white and had always identified as such. It was even on her birth certificate. If the woman in need comes from a Black family and is recognized in her community as Black, then she's Black -- no matter how she compares with a paper bag.

I'm from New Orleans. I'm what used to be called "passant blanc Creole." So I see what you're talking about, the French names and the paper bag tests. It stings.
