Would I give up whiteness?
In a heartbeat!
Whiteness suits me like a stiff polyester suit with scratchy seams two sizes too small and a pricey pair of ill-fitting shoes.
I hear it -- everybody wants the rhythm, nobody wants the blues. I see it -- racism makes every problem worse. I feel the crap my neighbors have to deal with every day and it stinks.
Still, I'd take the trade if I could. To belong somewhere, to have an outside that matches my inside. There's something to be said for that.
