This came up at an Al-Anon meeting. I had just started going, and the topic of the day was "black-and-white thinking." When my turn came to talk, I said that we need to quit using "black" to refer to negativity, and there are other words that will do. For example, "binary thinking" or "all or nothing thinking."
The lone Black man there shifted uncomfortably to face away from me. Others laughed nervously.
Other people's turn to speak came up. They continued to refer to "black and white thinking."
God made autistic folks with a sacred task -- to buck the tide. It's a dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it.
I didn't go back.
