There's an assumption in this, that the government provides abortions and has decided to no longer provide them. This may be true in the UK but is not true here in the USA, where a recent supreme court decision has raised this discussion.

Here in the USA, health care is a commodity, provided by businesses. The Supreme Court decision has infringed on the ability of women to purchase this service. The government provides Medicaid, a very minimal health service to the very poor, but federally-funded abortion is not availble under Medicaid under the Hyde amendment.

There is also the assumption that people have sex as a rational decision, with full consent, and that unwanted pregnancies are generally the result of failure to use birth control. These two assumptions are not always true. Birth control can and does fail, resulting in an unwanted pregnancy.

In addition, the human anatomy makes it possible for people to be raped. As a penguin you may not understand this but for human females it's a very real danger that we deal with constantly. Short of rape, sometimes men think a woman's "no" means "keep bugging me till I give in." Or, "stalk me." Or, "put something in my drink and have your way with my unconscious body." Or, "keep touching me till my hormones get the better of me and I give in." Or, "threaten me till I give in.' Etc. Moreoover, here in the USA, many people believe that a man has a right to sex with his wife any time he wants, no matter what she wants.

The Dobbs decision is an imposition of religious beliefs on a pluralistic and secular society. Maybe as a Brit you don't understand this. Nice try at being arguementive but I think you missed the boat on this one.
