There are all sorts of rants on social media. Those who don't like feminist rants—or any other kind—can block those authors and read something else. Instead, some needed to take personally the words of trolls -- people they've never even met, and may even be bots -- and take it out of the whole country.

I've done this myself. For a while, I was reading as much as I could about how horrible white people are. I took it to heart and got to where I was considering unaliving myself so that there would be one less evil racist in the world. At that point, I realized how foolish I was in taking those messages personally, and my self-hating tears turned into healing laughter. I'm probably a better ally now that I can acknowledge others' pain without taking myself on a trip to hell over it.

Now, we're on a fast track to hitting bottom as a society. We're all about to learn some hard lessons. Let's quit the blame game and focus on what's ahead.
