Thanks so much for this article and for the work you do.
I got into a discussion of this film and raised concerns about its accuracy and its White Savior / christian nationalism undertext. I'm a survivor so I know a thing or two about what this movie is supposed to be about. Next thing you know, people who have never even met me were accusing me of all sorts of horrors.
One thing that particularly galled me about this film is that its makers have a strong connection to a certain well-known Utah-based church. I'm not naming that church because I don't want to have to deal with libel suits --everyone knows who I'm talking about though. In my survivor's support groups, I've heard former members of that church tell of their experiences with sex abuse and trafficking.
You're so right -- we can't even discuss the accuracy and harmful effects of a snuff flick gone mainstream without being accused of being monsters ourselves. Critical thinking has gone AWOL.
For valid information on how we can do our part against human trafficking, Truckers Against Trafficking is a good start. Recently I picked up a flier from that organization. It tells of how to recognize signs of trafficking and how to respond and report. Most of the info in that flier seems sound although questioning the victim might not always be a good idea IMO. They also have a phone app. Check them out ... TruckersAgainstTrafficking.org.
