Thanks for this article! Most white people are unaware of racism. This is because we are carefully taught this blind spot during our formative years. Most white people don't even remember this indoctrination, because most of it happes implicitly.

Malcolm X said that white people need to educate each other. We need to point out examples of systemic racism to those who are not aware. Also we need to point out how racism hurts everyone, not just Black people. For example, racism is the reason why the USA has such a paltry safety net compared with other nations of similar resources. I've found that simply mentioning race is taboo among white folks.

I'm lucky to be autistic. The implicit teaching didn't work very well with me so my elders tried teaching me explicitly to be racist. Presented that way, I could see how cruel and illogical it all was. Autism also confers a bit of immunity to peer pressure and nonsensical taboos. Even so, I'll readily admit that I'm racist, simply as a result of having been raised in a racist society. The first step to solving a problem is to recognize and understand the problem. This is where most people who look like me get stuck. They think racist = bad person and they don't wan to think of themselves as bad people. But one can be racist and also a good person, simply by being raised in a racist society and never having call to challenge their conditioning. That's why Malcolm X said that white folks must educate each other.

Thanks again for this article. Clapped and followed.
