My reference to TV is metaphorical. It was a shorter way of saying, "Be careful of what information you allow to cross your blood-brain barrier, whether social media, TV, ad signs on the street, rants from your neighbor who likes to stir the pot, etc. Or even, take a break from it all for a while."
I don't own a TV either. I haven't in over 30 years. But there's still a lot of garbage information out there, and I'm even more careful about what I put into my mind than about what I put into my body. I have to be. My autistic brain loves to visualize horrific scenes and take statements literally, and it would happily take an extended self-guided tour of hell if I allowed. I can easily become depressed and want to check out, if I don't nip it in the bud. So I change the channel or turn off the TV, so to speak.
