Most people have no idea how science works, or how statistics works.

I've tried explaining some of this to my brother, and the minute I mention statistics he interrupts with "There are lies, damn lies, and statistics!" SMH.

I teach intro statistics, and I first tell students that statistics is the art and science of making sense of raw data. It's essential because science relies on data, and our way of life relies on science.

This doesn't always mean much to them at first, but it becomes clearer as we go along.
