White reaction has been around for centuries. Ever since enslaved folks were labeled with "drapetomania" when they tried to escape, ever since the slave codes and Jim Crow, ever since the idea of "white people" was first mentioned in 1613 by British playwright Thomas Middleton in his play, The Triumphs of Truth.

Fun fact: Benjamin Franklin didn't regard people from southern or eastern Europe as white. Only Anglo-Saxons need apply.

The whole idea of race was invented several hundred years ago to justify slavery. Before that (paraphrasing Bob Marley), the color of a man's skin was of no more importance than the color of his eyes.

Identity has also existed for a long time. Folks on the Right also identify with their politics, religion, sports teams, etc. It's human nature.

And the trump cult has been around for at least a decade before Oct 7. Remember the Tea Party?
