Some people of Eastern European heritage have epicanthic folds, a gift from an ancestor who lived somewhere along the Silk Road or traveled with Genghis Khan's troops, who crossed the Caucasus mountains into southwest Asia and eastern Europe in their later campaigns.
A while back, I knew a 1st generation German-American whose parents came over from Germany shortly before the outbreak of WWII. His olive skin, blue-black hair, and slight epicanthic folds all suggest East Asian heritage. He likes to say that he is a direct descendant of Genghis Khan! This was long before DNA testing and he had no proof beyond his appearance, a "gut feeling," and his parents' land of origin, but he has the attitude and looks to get away with such a claim. Who knows, maybe he really is descended from Genghis Khan! Maybe you are, too.
