Often the DNA testing companies assign remote Native ancestry to Peru. This is because, while most Natives have been very leery of donating their DNA to genetic studies, the Peruvian government allowed scientists to study the mummified remains of indigenous Peruvian ancestors.
There's a story in my family that we're related to some Apaches who jumped off the prison train in Louisiana near the Texas border. This is plausible, and I've had some confirmations of this. But my DNA test said I'm related to "Mummy Juanita," of Peru. Go figure.
