Nigerian immigrants were not stripped of their names, cultures, wealth, communities, and human rights and dignity when they came here. They have not endured generations of Western-style systemic oppression. They did not have to cope with centuries of lynching, Jim Crow, redlining, voter suppression, They come here under pretty much the same conditions as other voluntary immigrants come, so they’re making comparable headway.

The success of Nigerian immigrants highlights the devastating effect of the legacy of slavery and systemic racism on USA-born descendants of chattel slavery. These people are living counter evidence to the racist myth of racial inferiority.
