This is very problematic. I think if I were a member of that band, I'd sit it out if possible. Just like I sat out our choral performance of an old English folk song that celebrated kidnapping and rape. However, I can also understand the POV of those who think it will be a great opportunity to shine.
Maybe they could build a special repertoire of songs that ridicule or criticise abuse of authority, or celebrate the Black struggle. There are even some songs written specifically to criticise the felon.
