Like the old story says -- we all have two wolves fighting in us, one good and one bad. The one who wins is the one we feed the most.

People who say they can't be racist, sexist, fat-phobic, etc, because they regard themselves as "good people" ignore the fact that bigotry often originates in very early social conditioning and stays under the radar in our subconscious minds. We all have biases of some sort, so we all need to recognize our biases and challenge ourselves to know better and do better.

Education and empathy help. Unfortunately, the USA-ian notion of toxic individualism undermines these. Our incoming administration won on bigotry and lies. We may need to hit bottom before we learn, so let's buckle up and keep our good wolves well-fed.
