Kids can be so cruel, I'm sorry this happened to you. Looks like these kids were too ignorant to realize that just because a word appears in a historical novel doesn't mean it's acceptable. I was bullied also so I know -- bullies will use any excuse they can, to make what they're doing seem innocent. This is a good argument for removing these books from required reading.
