It's about race because Black people are held to impossible standards while white people get away with a lot more. Had both men been white, most people would be clapping and cheering for a man defending his wife, just like in the movies. But since it was Black men, too many white people immediately tihnk of gangbanging and violence and think Smith should have gone all Ghandi.
