"In reality, women made the choice when they had sex. They knew the risk. Fair or not, when you have sex there is a risk you will get pregnant. That is where the choice lies."

This is oversimplifying. What if birth control fails? What if the woman is coerced? Yeah, I know there are exceptions for rape, but not all coercion meets the legal standard of rape. Too many men think "no" means "stalk me" or "harrass me till I give in." The resulting pregnancy is often seen as "punishment" for the woman, while the man gets off free and clear.

I don't like abortion. I don't know anyone who does. But sometimes it's the lesser of several evils. The moral question is real and valid, but intensely personal. Such a personal decision should be left to the pregnant person. The state, the voters, the judiciary, etc. , are not stakeholders. They will not have to suffer through an unwanted pregnancy, or spend the next 18 years or more caring for the child that will result from the unwanted pregnancy. THey should butt out and let the real stakeholders decide what's best for themselves and their families.
