I'm autistic. I wait my turn in conversation because interrupting is considered extremely rude in the autistic community. We hear each other out, and we're not afraid of silence.

I have a tough time talking with neurotypicals because they interrupt to comment on what they think I'm about to say. When they do this, I feel very frustrated and disrespected -- especially when they are mistaken about what I'm about to say. I hear them out, but it seems they can't return the courtesy. I get the feeling that they're afraid of silence so they have to fill every pause with chatter. I also feel unheard because how can they be listening if they're so eager to interrupt that they can't control themselves?

That's why I don't like to talk to people. I prefer email or text. That way, I can say what I want to say without interruption.
