Black people get to make hyperbolic absolutist statements like this out of their trauma and grief. But we don't get to talk to each other this way because 1) self-hate is not a sustainable motivation for allyship and 2) Like any absolutist statement, it can be falsified by a single counterexample. And the counterexamples are many.

PS - yes, Lovett's song is pretty cringey,. Just looking at the lyrics, it seems to be a pretty poor example of inter-racial artistic collaboration. But do we judge a genre by its worst examples, or by its best?
