I remember how my male elders tried to teach me to be racist. I'd sit at the dinner table and have to listen to my father and my grandfather ranting about "the n----rs.' Sometimes I'd talk back and get beaten for it. Mostly hit on the head. The frequent sub-clinical concussions I endured probably exacerbated my autism.
I wonder how many other white kids experienced this growing up. I wonder how many other white kids resisted and got beaten for it. How many others simply accepted it and have no particular memories of how they were taught to be racist and think that's just the way it is.
A quick unscientific poll here: any other white folks out there remember being taught to be racist? What happened and how did that turn out?
