Granted, "white privilege" is a problematic term, especially in its usual use, of referring to the basic rights that we should all enjoy, but are denied to some because of the color of their skin. I prefer the good old fashioned term "civil rights." That term doesn't doesn't need articles and books to explain, and it's something we can all get behind.

That said, Chauvin's mother's statement poured salt on old and new wounds. She didn't even have the decency to apologize to Floyd's family, even after hearing their statements. I've heard of an empathy gap, in that white folks tend not to have much empathy for Black folks, and this was an example writ large. I'm embarrassed to share her skin color.
