Good essay, except for promoting Di Angelo.

She makes a lot of money going around to corporations telling white folks to avoid using certain words and don't touch other people's hair. And to be ashamed, be very ashamed. She doesn't really challenge racism because that would mean pointing out how racism and capitalism support each other. If she did that, she would be out of a job.

I say, white folks who want to learn about racism and its impact, listen to real Black people! Read classic critics such as Malcolm X and James Baldwin, thoughtful fiction writers such as Alice Walker and Octavia Butler, modern critics such as Cornell West and Tanahisi Coates, popular voices from rap, hiphop, and spoken word artists, etc. All this as well as our Black neighbors, co-workers, and -- dare I say it -- relatives.

Guilt is ok for a pit stop, but not as a final destination. Guilt can motivate a person to do better, but too much guilt can be immobilizing. Good point on that also.
