For centuries, the Right has said that the primary purpose of the 2A is to take out the government should it become tyrannical.

THE GOP is not a monolith. About 20% of the Republican party are classic conservatives. These coincide with the "never trumpers" who oppose TFG because he doesn't seem to understand the Constitution and routinely violates it. Like those of us on the left, classic conservatives are deeply alarmed at how recent court decisions have seemingly placed TFG outside the law, a development that threatens the very fabric of our Constitution.

And then there's Project 2025, a blueprint for dismantling our system of checks and balances and establishing a theocracy. Polls show that P 2025 is vehemently opposed on both sides of the aisle by the overwhelming majority of people who say they have heard of it. And those who support it pretend that it doesn't exist, or it doesn't matter, or they know nothing of it. Go figure.

The shooter was a registered Republican, a gun enthusiast, and a history buff. Those who took a history class with him recall him as a consistent right-winger.

Sure, he donated the cost of a lunch to a progressive organization when Biden was inaugurated. Why not congratulate the enemy of your enemy on his victory?
