Back in the days before 9-11, when people were friendlier, I lived in New Orleans and used to visit Black churches. The sermons were engaging and the music was a little taste of Heaven. Although I present as white, the usher always greeted me and showed me to a seat, and the deaconesses would sometimes approach me for a chat, a handshake, or even a hug. It was always a warm, friendly place, and I was treated as a welcome guest. I even made friends there.

Now, living in a city in the Southwest in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, 9/11, COVID-19, Dylan Roof (especially that!), and other nasty events, I hesitate to visit a Black church. Is it still OK for white folks to visit Black churches if we know how to behave right? Thanks.
