A few days ago I read an article about Kanye's interview with Tucker Carlson, of all people. Wish I could find an actual transcript of the interview but the article containing some quotes was the next best thing. (I have a hard time watching videos due to sensory issues.)
A few things stuck in my mind. He said wearing that shirt was an act of art, and compared it with ... I don't remember exactly but it was something to do with some other celebrity's slightly-risque-yet-beautiful performance. He said he wore that shirt because obviously white lives do matter, always have. He also said he thought it was funny. He said his father agreed it was funny: "just a Black man stating the obvious."
So many reasons ... sounds to me like he's ad-libbing. And pretty smart ad-libbing, I gotta admit.
I still think the real reason was to get attention. And there's nothing really wrong with that -- humans are social critters and we need attention just like we need food and water. Just that the way he goes about getting his attention fix seems kinda sleazy to those of us who admire his music. I mean -- why not get attention simply by being a great performing musician? That works pretty well for so many other superstars, why does he have to s...t in his grits?
The Right is lapping it up like milk and honey, and that's ... problematic.
