A dump supporting relative lives with me because he can't afford his own place. He says that dump will "make everything (prices) come down" with "drill baby drill!" He says everything is based on energy, and if we drill more then gas will be cheaper and everything will be cheaper.

I recognized that this is pretty much what Dump said, word for word. So I said, the oil we drill here is heavy crude, like asphalt. Our light crude resources are all tapped out. But our refineries were built a while back, and are built to handle light crude. Also, oil prices are determined by the world market. If we put more oil on the market, other oil-producing countries will cut production to keep prices stable and high.

He seemed to zone out, and after I'd finished saying this he replied, you're listening to lamestream news too much. You need to listen to alternative news sources and find out the truth.

The so-called mainstream media, while not perfect, has professional standards for vetting, while YouTube content creators have no such boundaries. But I knew there was no sense in telling him that because he has an anti-intellectual bias against “so-called experts.”

He's a pretty smart guy in other ways, but he has a huge blind spot from being raised fundamentalist. Fundies are taught from a very early age to believe impossible things.
